The incredible painter Jillian Evelyn and I have our very first conversation! We talk about navigating the creative process, the labyrinth that is a fine art career, doing murals, steady paying jobs vs the feast or famine life, and the strange role that time plays in the life of a creator. My dogs interrupt the podcast yet again, this time with some wonderful shreeks and howls.
Jillian Evelyn’s paintings combine the contorted female figure with graphic shapes and a limited color palette. Her work explores the struggle of womanhood and the anxiety that arises from societal expectations.
Jillian studied illustration at the College for
Creative Studies in Detroit.
After graduating, she worked as a footwear designer for several
years before moving to California to pursue her career as a full
time painter.
Jillian lives in Los Angeles with her pug Olie.
